Trans-Pacific Rates Holding Higher

Trans-Pacific ocean rates remain elevated as rising bunker fuel costs, storm-driven congestion and capacity disruptions offset early signs of softer peak-season demand. Rates are currently near $7,600 per container to the U.S. West Coast and $9,500 to the East Coast, levels comparable with the 2024 peak season.

For shippers, the key issue is not just price. Typhoon-related congestion across Asian hubs, increased blank sailings and Panama Canal transit reductions could create added pressure on schedules, equipment flow and service reliability. In Europe, Asia–Mediterranean rates are easing faster than North Europe, though port congestion and labor disruptions are keeping costs above pre-peak levels.

TLC is monitoring fuel trends, carrier schedule changes, port congestion and lane-specific capacity as the market moves toward the end of peak season. We are evaluating routing and timing considerations with flexibility in mind, without assuming today’s rate direction will hold.

If you have upcoming ocean freight, connect with TLC to review lane exposure, timing and options before market conditions shift again.
